If you’re ever looking to buy a dog joint supplement, you’ll notice that there are lots of different types available. But how do you know what to choose and which is best? Here’s our doggy insider’s guide on what to look for in a joint supplement.

1. Independent clinical trial data

If a company has paid for its own clinical trials, you could be forgiven for suspecting the results might be biased. When you’re choosing a supplement for your dog’s joints, you want to pick a brand that has had independent clinical trials carried out by a respected industry body.

YuMOVE is proven to work in just six weeks, according to an independent clinical trial carried out by the Royal Veterinary College

At Lintbells, we partnered with the Royal Veterinary College to carry out a scientific study on the efficacy of YuMOVE. The Royal Veterinary College is one of the world’s leading specialist institutions of veterinary medicine, biosciences and veterinary nursing. It’s renowned for its cutting-edge research in veterinary science, and we couldn’t think of anyone better to evaluate our range of dog joint supplements.

2. A brand name you recognise

Have you heard of the company before? Does their name ring a bell? One excellent sign of a trustworthy brand is if you recognise the name and if the brand keeps good company.

We’ve been in business for over a decade and we still hold true to the reasons why we started in the first place. We’re huge animal lovers and we want the best both for our pets and yours. That’s why we only use the highest quality ingredients. If it’s good enough for Charlie, the Labrador who inspired YuMOVE, it’s good enough to share with the rest of the world.

We hope you’ll also recognise the Lintbells and YuMOVE from our national TV campaigns and from the company we keep. We have a close alliance with Battersea, the much-loved dogs and cats home, we’re proud sponsors of For the Love of Dogs, and you’ll always find us at Crufts, where the most glamorous pooches rely on YuMEGA Show Dog to help their skin and coat stay in tip top condition.

3. High-quality ingredients

Just like the supplements that you buy for yourself and your family, dog joint supplements can be made with a wide variety of ingredients. Some supplements are packed with high-quality ingredients; others have very low levels of active ingredients and are padded out with inexpensive ‘fillers’ that are there for bulk, rather than to have a measurable effect.

Whatever ingredients we use, you can be sure we will have investigated the science behind them rigorously, and will only ever use the highest quality available. Take these three examples.

  • Green Lipped Mussels

At Lintbells, we’re famous for the Green Lipped Mussels that go into our YuMOVE range. We only buy top quality, ethically produced, sustainable Green Lipped Mussels from our sources in New Zealand. Then we use a vacuum drying process that preserves the essential Omega 3 oils in the mussels, enabling us to produce an extract that has four times more Omega 3 than most other types. More Omega 3 means more benefit to soothe your dog’s stiff joints.

  • Glucosamine

Glucosamine is an essential component of connective tissue, cartilage and ligaments and is a very popular ingredient in joint supplements for both dogs and humans.

Glucosamine Sulfate is the type of Glucosamine that is most commonly found in dog joint supplements.

However, having taken a careful look at the science behind this ingredient, we have chosen to use Glucosamine Hydrochloride instead, which is a more concentrated form. In addition, for our YuMOVE Young & Active and YuMOVE Plus, we use a combination of Glucosamine Hydrochloride and N-Acetyl-D Glucosamine. These two types of Glucosamine work well together to help maintain healthy joint structures and function for young and active dogs, and for older dogs who need more support.

  • Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic Acid is a miraculous ingredient that acts as a shock absorber for your dog’s joints.

However, there are many different types of Hyaluronic Acid molecule that could be included in a supplement to help dogs with stiff joints. We’ve read up on the science and have identified one particular molecule that’s guaranteed to reach your dog’s joints in just two hours. So that’s the only one we use.

4. Recommended by vets

It’s wonderful to hear that dog owners love YuMOVE because it gives their pooches a new spring in their step. Hop over to Trustpilot if you’d like to read what people are saying about us.

“You may wish to consider a supplement such as YuMOVE which is made from natural ingredients but is also clinically proven to support mobility.”
James Howie, Veterinary Surgeon

Although it’s lovely to have lots of happy customers, if you really want to check whether a product is worth buying, you need to know whether vets recommend it too.

YuMOVE is the UK’s no.1 veterinary joint supplement brand
Kynetec VetTrack August 2019. Sales of YuMOVE branded products through veterinary wholesalers.

So it’s reassuring to know that YuMOVE is the most popular joint supplement at veterinary practices in the UK. That’s according to research carried out by Kynetec VetTrak Sales Data, a leading animal health market research company that provides quantitative information about the animal health products that vets use.

5. No false claims

At Lintbells, we’re sticklers for science and we’re sticklers for the truth. We never make claims that we can’t back up with proven data. So when we say that YuMOVE has been proven to work in just six weeks, it’s because we have the data from the Royal Veterinary College to back up that claim.
